Randomised trial on pain reduction in hysterosalpingography - a modified technique without vulsellum forceps

ABSTRACT Background: Pain is the most common side effect of hysterosalpingography (HSG) and partly arises from vulsellum placement on cervix cervical traction. Objective: To study conducting HSG without grasping with forceps time taken to complete procedure, pain experienced by participants diagnostic quality images produced.Materials Methods: A randomized controlled trial 64 consenting adult women referred Radiodiagnostic department for July December 2020 was carried out. The were consecutively selected randomly distributed into two groups: Group 1 - no grasp 2 – forceps. done using a fluoroscopy machine, following standard hospital protocol speculum, Leech Wilkinson cannula Urografin 76%. Procedure time, procedure visual analog scale assessed. Data analysis Microsoft Excel SPSS software version 22.Results: overall mean duration 12.59 minutes. There significant difference in between both groups. scores immediately 15 minutes after 4.83 2.23 respectively. Significant differences seen immediate post 3.94 (group 1) versus 5.72 2) 1.75 2.72 2). After adjusting confounders, score noted be significantly related technique use associated higher score.
